The practice of weaving stripes, fair isles and argyle patterns into a jumper or cardigan is familiar, the sort of thing that's been taking place since time immemorial. But for the past few seasons, designers have moved past these traditional motifs, and instead begun adorning their knitwear with oversized florals, enthusiastic branding, abstracts and repeating prints. As seems often the case nowadays, it's a trick ripped straight from the pages of sportswear – taking the playfulness of a graphic t-shirt or a logo-laden sweatshirt and applying it to something more traditional and long-wearing.
We choose three of the best from the new season's collections.
